A poem inspired by Subeta’s Masquerade!
Originally titled “Neon Gears and Silver Tears” but I use the word silver more often, so I figured clockwork would stand out more in my body of work. Plus it ties in better with the steamwork and cyberpunk themes of the event.
He bursts out the door in
leather boots with rainbow laces.
His ruffled vest
leaves his chest
just an inch short of naked.
He’s painted his face with clockwork gems and silver neon lips.
You take his hand, flushed hot
like an unrelenting summer evening.
You want him to stay in your arms all year,
but the clock
tick-tocks
as steady as it’d ever been here.
Then that rogue with the crimson feather
has the gall to steal your living dream.
So you duel to win back your partner’s hand.
But the rogue pulls out a dagger and now
you’re alone at the masquerade.
You watch him whisk your dream away.
“HFE, this is amazing! Where can we we send you money?”
I’m glad you asked!
